Police detain two officers for reckless shooting while working as security escorts for Davido in Lagos
The Nigerian Police Force has reacted to a video that went viral a while back, showing two policemen working as security escorts for Davido, shooting into the air on the street in a moving vehicle in Lagos.
According to ACP Abayomi Shogunle, who's also the Head of Public Complaints Rapid Response Unit, investigation started when complaints from members of the public were submitted and it was revealed that the incident took place on July 31 at 5 p.m. along the Murtala Mohammed International Airport road, Lagos.
The Commissioner of police in charge of Police Mobile Force at the Force Headquarters, identified the men following a directive from the Inspector-General of Police. Shogunle explained that the two policemen were attached to a private security company, Infinity Security Company and Davido engaged them to provide escort for him to his house while returning from outside Nigeria.
Shogunle revealed that investigation confirmed that the two policemen involved started shooting into the air for no just cause, and are now in detention. They have been tried in orderly room and punishment has been recommended. "The conduct of those policemenis unacceptable. They are no longer involved in any duty where they will carry any weapon and will be in detention until the process is over before they will be released," he said.
