Hotel explosion in Somalia kills at least 23 people

A suicide car bomb exploded outside a popular hotel in Mogadishu, capital of Somalia killing at least 23 people and wounding more than 30 others. According to reports, the explosion was the first of a series of three blasts. A second explosion occurred near the former parliament where military personnel were stationed and a third happened when an attacker detonated a suicide vest close to the hotel. Around 30 people, including government officials, who were trapped inside the hotel were eventually freed after security forces worked for hours on Saturday evening to end the siege by al-Shabab extremists.   Captain Mohamed Hussein said three of the five attackers were killed and others hurled grenades and cut off the hotel’s electricity as night fell.  Police officer Ali Nur said: “Security forces have entered a small portion of the hotel building…The exchange of gunfire is hellish.”   He added that most of those killed were policemen who were stationed close to the hotel’

Unknown gunmen suspected to be hired assassins attacked a land surveyor, Comr. Eteli Tuanam Henry at his residence in Yenizuegene, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State on October 25. According to report,  police men on duty caught the suspected gunmen, who reportedly came all the way  from Delta State.

A young gallant soldier identified as Muhammad A Yellow was among eight soldiers killed by suspected Boko Haram insurgents in attack on Sassawa village, Damaturu Local Government Area of Yobe State last Tuesday. It was gathered that the attackers stormed the village in five Hilux vans around  6pm  and opened fire on the soldiers. “The attackers took the soldiers unawares at a football pitch. One officer and seven other soldiers were killed. Some others got injured,” a source had said.

Be a hero! Nigerian Sickle Cell survivor celebrates her brother who donated his own bone marrow to her 13 years ago

Samira Sanusi was born with Sickle Cell disease but with the help of modern medicine, the determination of her father and a remarkable inner strength, today she is cured. Her brother Mustapha donated his own marrow which was transplanted into her in Vienna, Austria in 2004. Since then, she has devoted her life to fighting sickle cell by creating awareness, supporting other less fortunate young people with the condition emotionally and financially via a foundation she started the Samira Sanusi Sickle Cell Foundation. Yesterday marks thirteen years after the life saving transplant and she took to Twitter to celebrate her brother. "13 years ago today @mustysanusi gave me his Bone Marrow/Stem Cells which cured me of Sickle Cell Anaemia" she wrote.

Woman, 22, dies after suicidal boy, 12, jumps off an overpass and lands on her car but he survives

A 22 year old Maryland womanMarisa Harris, who was minding her own business and driving under the Cedar Lane overpass on Interstate 66 in Virginia, has been killed, after a 12-year-old boy threw himself off an overpass and landed on her Ford Escape at 4:18pm on Saturday afternoon. Harris was pronounced dead at the scene while the suicidal boy who caused the accident, survived. He was rushed to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where he is being treated for life-threatening injuries. The suicidal boy's name has not been released because he is a minor. The reason why he tried to commit suicide is not yet known. A man who was a passenger in Harris' front seat was able to stop the car on the left shoulder, fortunately, he was not injured at all. The interstate was closed for several hours as police worked the scene. It was reopened after the scene had been cleared.

RRS today shared photos of some corporate pickpockets and thieves apprehended in various areas in Lagos state. According to a statement published on their social media handles, one of the apprehended pickpockets, 18-year-old Seun Jimoh was a trainee auto-engineer that abandoned his mechanic work for pickpocketing in Oshodi, on the ground that it was more profitable. Jimoh, decked in brown jacket and trousers, and a handbag like a corporate executive, as at the time of his arrest had already stolen four mobile phones from unsuspecting commuters in an early morning rush in Oshodi. He was removing N18, 000:00 from the pocket of a commuter during another bus stampede when he was caught. Unknown to Jimoh, two of his victims were on the lookout for him after suspecting him of being in possession of their missing phones. While standing at Oshodi Under Bridge, they spotted him removing N18,000:00 from the pocket of another victim, Gbenga Odeniyi. Odell Beckham's dad arrested on drug and weapon charges

American football player, Odell Beckham Jr's dad Odell Beckham Sr. was on Wednesday, arrested for possession of weed and a gun in Texas. TMZ Sports reported on Thursday that Odell Sr whose son plays as a wide receiver for the New York Giants of the National Football League was booked on counts of "unlawful carrying weapon" and "possession of marijuana under two ounces." He was taken to a nearby station where he was booked and posed for a mug shot. He has since been released on $5,000 bail. The elder Beckham played college football at LSU from 1990 through 1992. The running back rushed for 757 yards and seven touchdowns on 152 carries and added 30 catches for 292 yards. His son followed in his footsteps by playing for the Tigers in college. He was named a First-Team All-American in 2013 before being selected with the 12th overall pick by the New York Giants in the 2014 NFL draft.

Officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have paraded three young men namely Osabuohien Aghimien, Osamudiamen Stephen and Victory Osayomwan, for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old secondary school pupil. According to reports, one of the suspects, Osabuohien, a mechanic apprentice, claimed he was the boyfriend of the victim and that he took her to his friend, Osamudiamen's house for the night so they could have sex. He said after he finished having sex with her, his friends requested to have sex with her and she obliged them. “I was there when they had sex with her. When my friend said he wanted to go in again, she agreed. When I went to their home the next day, I was apprehended. My friend wanted to give her money, but I refused.” he said. The EFCC, on Thursday, October 26th arraigned the duo of Kenneth Elele and Duru Patrick Uchenna before Justice Adebimpe Olatoregun of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos on a two-count charge bordering on money laundering to the tune of N5, 500,000 ( Five Million, Five Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira). The complainant, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, alleged that the suspects were arrested on October 16, 2015 during an inward screening of passengers at the Seme Border for unlawful possession of N3,300,000.00 concealed in a black ‘Bagco’ bag inside a V-boot Mercedes Benz with registration number MUS 121 BX.  The agency also alleged that an undeclared sum of N2,250,000.00 ( Two Million, Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) was also recovered from the suspects in a white cello-taped parcel under the battery of a V- boot Mercedes Benz with registration number MUS 121 BX Lagos. A case of Monkey Pox has been recorded at Tiga General Hospital in Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State. According to Daily Nigerian, the patient, who is from Nasarawan Kuki village, absconded from the hospital  on Wednesday  night after being diagnosed of the disease. “He was quarantined here in order to avoid spreading disease, but he absconded from the hospital last night. “We informed the authorities but no one made any effort to trace the whereabouts of the patient to avoid spreading the disease in Kano,” said a source who preferred anonymity.
